I got older,
but not old enough to complain.
I started working,
and I forgot a lot of things.
Then it hit me
all at once.

People could see me,
the scaring on my face,
two blank, black eyes
that never shone up.

so I said it out loud,
why try me so hard?
I was just playing along

I've been poor and unwanted,
felt misunderstood.
But I studied hard and landed on
my two feet.
So, I got where I wanted
or maybe where I needed to be
So what now?
